China-Russia textile trade status quo Challenges and opportunities co-exist

Due to the long-term slump in production in the Russian textile industry, domestic products are unable to meet market demand and are therefore extremely dependent on imports. Currently, the Russian textile industry imports about 70 per cent of its raw materials. Except for cotton and woolen fabrics and some technical textiles, daily textiles such as silk fabrics, rayon and curtain fabrics are mainly imported from China.

Russia consumes about 17 billion US dollars of all kinds of textiles and about 36 billion US dollars of garments every year. This market demand not only promotes the development of Russia's domestic textile and apparel industry, but also promotes the prosperity of the import market, which provides a good opportunity for China to export textiles and apparel to Russia.

Chinese companies' technological advantages, customisation capabilities and rich market experience will help meet the diversified needs of the Russian market. Through co-operation with Russian textile enterprises, Chinese enterprises can provide them with advanced production solutions and help the Russian textile industry continue to develop and grow.
